About the Weston Family Learning Centre
The Weston Family Learning Centre allows visitors to experience the power of art to transform how we understand our world and ourselves. The facility, which opened in October 2011, comprises approximately 35,000 square feet of renovated and new space, and increases the AGO’s ability to provide stellar art education in dedicated spaces for instruction and workshops.
This hub for community creativity and learning – a gathering place for hands-on and online exploration of the creative process – sets a standard for museums around the world, with fully integrated technology that includes broadcast and videoconferencing capabilities, and meeting spaces for educational and private functions.

Hariri Pontarini Architects
Funding for this visionary project was made possible by two key partners: the Government of Canada’s Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, and a landmark donation from the W. Garfield Weston Foundation, which committed the largest single gift in support of art education in the Gallery’s 111-year history.
First and foremost was the desire to create a beautiful and welcoming space for schools and the community. Core principles of the vision: functionality (durability for large groups); flexibility (maximizing spaces and program opportunities); accessibility (providing a feeling of welcome); integration (offering direct connection to the galleries above); and transparency (a window into the creative process).
The Weston Family Learning Centre offers a full roster of programs for all ages, and is a resource and destination for educators, students, children and families, youth and adults. Programs include free youth drop-in centre and programs; school programs; teacher workshops: art workshops and courses for all ages; symposia; family programs; tours; birthday parties; corporate workshops and events; and much more.
